Frankfurt is the birthplace of Goethe. In the Middle Ages in Frankfurt the German kings had been elected, here met the first free elected democratic  parliament of the Germans : a city of German history.
There are major museums - and of course you can shop here and enjoy urban life. The Zeil is one of the biggest - and most expensive - shopping streets in Germany.
